A common question from architects and homeowners is: 'Which thickness do I need?' While the finish might look the same, the thickness of the acrylic layer determines its structural performance.
1mm: The Standard Choice
For most residential kitchen cabinet shutters and wardrobes, 1mm acrylic laminated to 18mm MDF is the standard. It provides excellent color depth and sufficient scratch resistance for daily home use.
1.5mm: The Professional Grade
For larger shutters or high-use areas, 1.5mm offers better rigidity. It further reduces the 'telegraphing' effect (where the grain of the substrate might show through), resulting in a flatter, more premium surface.
3mm: The High-Traffic Powerhouse
In commercial applications, retail counters, or wall cladding, 3mm acrylic is recommended. It is significantly more impact-resistant and provides a solid, 'built-to-last' feel that lighter sheets cannot match.
