Surfacing sheens are only as good as the board core underneath. We technical analyze the three leading board substrates used in Indian modular furniture: Plywood, Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF), and Particle Board (PB).
1. Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) - The Flatness King
Calibrated E1-grade MDF offers a uniform density and a perfectly smooth surface calibrated to ±0.1mm tolerance. This eliminates the "orange peel" ripple effect, making it the only substrate suitable for high-gloss mirror reflections.
2. Calibrated Plywood - The Load Warrior
calibrated BWR Plywood offers superior screw-holding strength and load capacity, making it the preferred carcass substrate for heavy-load under-counter kitchen sinks.
3. Particle Board - The Budget Alternative
Particle Board is economical but highly porous. Under Indian monsoon humidity, manual edge-banded particle board absorbs moisture rapidly, causing cabinets to swell and crumble.
